Axedo plastic inspection chambers have been incorporated into the drainage system at a new multi-storey car park for London Luton Airport.
As part of a £110 million transformation project – encompassing access road improvements and expansions to the airport terminal – London Luton commissioned Buckingham Group Contracting to construct a new multi-storey car park.
Intended as a short term car park, the new complex comprises 1,700 spaces. JDP was asked to supply a drainage management solution to protect the new facility before opening it for public use.
The company’s technical team designed a comprehensive, underground drainage pipe system for the development. Axedo plastic inspection chambers were included to reduce installation time.
Designed to act as a lightweight, safer alternative to concrete chambers, Axedo can be fitted without heavy lifting equipment or extensive excavation.
The plastic chambers meet the requirements of Sewers for Adoption (SfA7), which stipulates that non-man entry access should be provided for deeper installations.
Buckingham Group carried out the installation quickly and economically. Axedo allowed the company to reduce the amount of vehicles needed on site and overall labour costs; impressed, it has specified the system for use on a number of other sites.
