Balustrades used to create contemporary balconies and glass floors

The balustrades for integrated balconies were manufactured by Sapphire using a Crystal frameless, structural glass system, with the clean continuous lines containing no vertical support posts, providing clear views across Canary Wharf’s skyline.

Some 10,000 structural glass panels were used to form the faceted glass balustrade and create the elliptical shape specified by designers without compromising on time and the costs associated with curved glass.

Eteched glass panels provide privacy screens between individual apartment balconies, whilst Sapphire has developed a new base fixing method to enable the rapid installation of balustrades, which are completely concealed once installed.

Triple laminated obscured glass panels have been set into the balcony decks to produce glass forms that twist around the building, complementing the outer balcony ‘ring’ which rotates at levels 8, 22 and 29.

The unique screening system used by Sapphire Balustrades saves contractors time and money by eradicating the need to erect and dismantle scaffolding, also ensuring the safety of installers with the use of a creeping shroud concept which moves up the side of the tower.

The engineering put into practice at Baltimore Tower creates a dynamic aesthetic design which complies to BS EN standard regulations.

Sapphire has won the second building contract on this site working on a 17 storey building with structural glass balustrades on projecting balconies which will match those on the main tower.
