Architect Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) recently contracted Reynaers to create a glass façade for its Four Seasons waterfront hotel design.
Located on a 12-acre private island, which is accessible by bridge or boat, the hotel is the latest addition to Manama’s skyline. Designed to provide a ‘city gateway’, the 68-storey building is composed of glass, concrete piers and suspended volumes.
The complex features a skypod restaurant, which is suspended at the top of the building, and a Mediterranean-inspired garden, planted with wild flowers and olive trees. Textured concrete walls and a limestone clad podium help to create a natural finish, juxtaposing the contemporary look of the hotel’s glass exterior.
Four Seasons hopes its new luxury 273-bedroom complex will inspire a new age of development in Bahrain.
Working in conjunction with SOM and the project’s contractor, Jungbluth Alu Partners, Reynaers specified a bespoke solution for the new hotel complex. The company developed a custom glass and aluminium façade, based on its CW 50-SC, CS 77-FP, CW 86-EF and CP 96 systems, to create the hotel’s striking exterior.
The hotel’s bedrooms benefit from full-height windows overlooking the bays; aluminium panels have been fitted throughout the building to visually connect the disparate levels.
An external bronze powder coated aluminium-ceilinged portico has been added to the entrance. It continues into the hotel’s lobby to create a futuristic feel.
