Bespoke rooflight solution from Glazing Vision

Bespoke rooflight enhances penthouse suite for over 10 years

  • 2 Nov 2015

Over 10 years ago, Glazing Vision designed and supplied a bespoke rooflight to filter natural daylight into a penthouse suite. To this day, it remains a stunning focal point and feature.

Located in Knightsbridge, London, the penthouse suite comprises two floors: the first is suitable for family living, whilst the second boasts an open-plan space, which has been specifically designed for fine dining and entertainment.

In 2004, Glazing Vision was contracted to supply a rooflight which would introduce and maintain high levels of natural daylight, whilst providing an open air dining space from within the confines of the building.

The penthouse’s flat roof already featured a considerable length of fixed glazing, reducing the amount of space available to install the rooflight safely.

Glazing Vision recommended a bespoke solution; by retracting two glass sections independently in a sliding stacking arrangement, the company specified a design which allowed for a 100% clear opening.

The glass takes up half of the adjacent roof space to the opening when fully retracted, meaning that the configuration maintains a minimal presence on the roof.

Measuring 3544mm x 2960mm, the rooflight incorporates over 10m2 of glazing. When closed, it ensures the weather tightness of the room below.

Withstanding the test of time

Despite being installed over a decade ago, the bespoke rooflight continues to serve the penthouse suite, introducing natural daylight into the building whilst acting as an attractive focal point.
