  • 21 May 2019

23 year-old apprentice Blake Edgell has won the inaugural NFRC Young Roofer of the Year Award.

The trainee, who works for J Randall Roofing Contractors in South Wales, was presented with his award by John Sinfield, Area Commercial Officer – North, of sponsor BMI UK & Ireland, at the UK Roofing Awards (pictured together above, with awards host Sarah Beeny).

The judges Blake was rewarded because of ‘his exceptional hard work to complete his NVQ course ahead of schedule, undertaking additional training courses and demonstrating a dedicated attitude by taking on technical jobs for his employer and working weekends and late nights.’

A delighted Blake remarked: ‘It’s been a great experience both winning the award and coming to London for the first time.

“Thank you to Shella, Joby and Monique for nominating me. I would also like to say a special thanks to my supervisor Stephen Francis for helping to teach me to be a good roofer.”

Monique Jones, Operations Manager, and one of Blake’s nominators, was absolutely thrilled that he picked up the award.

“We are all a bit shocked to be honest but Blake’s win is having a huge impact down here. He really deserves it and we know he can go on to bigger things in the future,” she commented.

Janine Brady, Marketing Communications Manager, BMI UK & Ireland added: “A heartfelt congratulations to Blake from all of us at BMI UK & Ireland. He has done so well to be crowned Young Roofer of the Year, especially when you consider the quality of entries.

“The judges had to select from a group of talented roofers who are motivated to learn and achieve. Blake’s win says a lot about his determination and character.”
