Howard Chapman, Buildingtalk Editor, reports from the 2017 Offsite Construction Awards ceremony held in London last night, celebrating the best in precision building, design and delivery.
The UK offsite construction market is expanding at more than 35% per year and is now seen as a major solution to delivering a more sustainable built environment. However, offsite build is still just 10% of the construction market so the growth potential is enormous.
The 2017 Offsite Construction Awards celebrated the best in precision building, design and delivery across arrange of key categories. The awards highlighted the best examples of prefabrication and factory-based methods, products and systems that are providing cost-effective ways of delivering new buildings across all sectors.
The Offsite Construction Awards were hosted by Darren Richards and organised by Radar Communications in partnership with Offsite Magazine and Offsite Hub. The headline sponsors were BBA and Ecobuild.
More than 200 entries were considered across a range of categories that demonstrated the reach that offsite now has across project sectors and types of buildings. The awards included ones for housing, commercial and retail, education, healthcare, and infrastructure projects. Best projects using concrete, steel, timber and hybrid construction were also recognised along with best use of volumetric technology and MEP prefabrication. There was also a product innovation award plus awards recognising key professionals in the industry.
Congratulations to Kier Construction who won 3 awards for the Broadmoor Hospital Redevelopment project: for ‘Best use of Concrete’, ‘Healthcare Project of the Year’, plus the prestigious ‘Winner of Winners’ Award.
