The Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI), a joint enterprise between GfK, the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) and MRA Marketing, has been shortlisted in the Construction Marketing Awards.
The BMBI has been nominated in the Best Use of Research & Insight category, which celebrates research and insight that has made a real difference, highlights the continued success of the index and its recent achievements.
One of the main objectives of the BMBI was to become a leading source of reliable RMI data for construction, recognised by Government, economists, business and the media, within five years of its launch. Four years on, this was achieved ahead of target.
Since July 2019, BMBI has been a regular feature of the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) monthly construction update. The BEIS update includes highlights from the BMBI report alongside other leading data providers, such as the Office of National Statistics, IHS Markit, the Construction Products Association, Experian and the Bank of England.
Over the past twelve months, BMBI has achieved extensive media coverage, securing more than 200 appearances in trade media across the wider construction market. It also reaches national media, including a reference in The Sunday Times. During 2019, BMBI’s expert panel also became the construction industry’s authoritative voice on Brexit with BBC News seeking to interview BMBI Experts on their preparations for Brexit and its likely effects on their businesses.
BMBI is the most reliable source of data for RMI, the UK’s housing repair, maintenance and improvement market. The index is based on data from GFK’s Builders Merchants Panel, which analyses sales by value from over 80% of the sales of the UK’s generalist builders’ merchants. Fourteen leading industry brands, the BMBI Experts, speaking for their markets, explain trends and issues and add insight and context to the data.
