Rooflight manufacturer Brett Martin has supplied a series of products to the Olympic Stadium as part of its transformation into a multi-use stadium.
The stadium is managed by E20 Stadium LLP, a joint venture between the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council. The works were headed by main contractor Balfour Beatty.
Host to five Rugby World Cup 2015 games this autumn, the Olympic Stadium will become the permanent home ground of West Ham Football Club in 2016.
The stadium features a 45,000m2 tensile roof which incorporates 87 tonnes of Brett Martin’s polycarbonate, made up of 4,384 sheets of Marlon CS profiled sheet.
Tom Olgivie, managing director of Brett Martin Daylight Systems, commented: “The transformation of the former Olympic Stadium has been a feat of production and delivery logistics with each sheet cut to size forming 1,684 unique shapes.
Each sheet was labelled with a unique placement code to give its location on the roof and then stacked in order they were used to ease the job for Building Envelope Specialists Lakesmere during the installation of the rooflight sheet.”
The transparent roof covers the entire seating area of the stadium, which has a capacity of 54,000. By incorporating Brett Martin’s Marlon CS Longlife profiled polycarbonate sheet, spectators will be able to enjoy a bright, airy environment that is protected from the elements and the sun’s UV rays.
Marlon CS Longlife polycarbonate comes with a co-extruded UV protection layer and carries a 10 year warranty on light transmission and durability.
