Aquarian Cladding Systems contributed to the project by supplying the Gebrik Insulating Brick Cladding System to clad the buildings brick façade.
Around 650 square metres of Gebrik was specified in a VS70-00 cream finish; this shade was selected to compliment the adjacent Bath stone buildings.
The project was co-ordinated by Bath-based architect, SRA; the company used its Öppen building method to construct the hospital, which allowed for a 40% reduction in build time.
The method also helped to deliver a 15% reduction in capital costs, in comparison to traditional build methods.
The Gebrik cladding was installed by CRL Facades, which completed the fitting within 8 working days. The contractors fast pace contributed to the overall speed achieved by the build programme.
The new facility was opened and first used within a record four months of starting on site.
The project was commended for using a whole team approach, whilst the construction method itself was praised for reducing the need for skilled labour. The clients were presented with better quality, lower costs and greater long term adaptability.
For these reasons, the project excelled in the Innovation Award category.
In the Value Award category, the judges citation called the project exceptional. The judges recognised that, by challenging the factors involved in building construction and development, the project achieved a more economic solution.
Moreover, the project has been selected as a Cabinet Office Trial Project for 2025, since it reflects value in time and investment and the principles of Construction 2025.
