House building news this week: latest ONS statistics show that new residential construction orders are up 41.6% and are now nearly 20% of all construction output. Planning permissions for new homes are up 33%, the highest since 2007.

With London’s population growing faster than anytime in history, Boris Johnson has published an interesting Housing Vision for London.

Meanwhile, just behind the curve again, Ed Milliband is promising to boost house building to 200k houses a year by 2020. If that is not enough, check out the video on the IKEA style flat-pack assembly house that can be constructed in 4 hours for just £10k.

And finally, with UK unemployment rate at lowest since 2009, over 30m in work, maybe it’s time to get a better job for 2014? Buildingtalk’s JOBsearch offers you a free opportunity to search through thousands of current construction and other built environment job vacancies.
