Commissioned by Glasgow Housing Association with the support of Creative Scotland, the compass is displayed in the new public space and highlights the historical importance of The Shilling Ground.

Gary Higginbottom, Project Manager at Centregreat Engineering Ltd, said: “Galvanising offers the perfect finish for steel, particularly in a marine environment where corrosion is sped up because of the damp atmosphere.”

The galvanising work will offer long term protection for pedestrians and reduces the need for frequent maintenance to be carried out at the site, which could be inconvenient to commuters due to the location of the bridge.

Comprising tinted glass panel infills, Spectrum offers design versatility, durability and fast, low energy construction which requires no welding or hot works.

Standing at just over three metres tall, the sculpture was created with the help of school children aged from seven to fifteen years to celebrate the sporting event taking place in Swaledale.

The project involved new saddle arrangements being installed to hold long timber frames and new railway line in place, while galvanised walkway support channels and angle irons were fitted to support the new track inspection walkways.

The £500 million is scheduled for completion in 2018 and will comprise both residential housing and public spaces.

The Lady of Shalott is situated on the rivers new N1 cycle track which runs from Lincoln to Boston and was commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council.
