Changing Places assisted-access toilet supplied to Riding Centre

  • 3 Aug 2016

Clos-o-Mat has supplied and installed a Changing Places toilet facility at the Clwyd Special Riding Centre as the result of a fund-raising campaign.

The Clwyd Special Riding Centre’s team of 11 staff and over 150 volunteers work with 24 specially-trained ponies and horses to provide equine therapy opportunities for children and adults with special needs. This ranges from spending groundwork time with an equine to riding, carriage driving, show jumping and hippotherapy.

Sorrel Taylor, centre manager at Clwyd Special Riding Centre explains: “Horses mirror our emotions: they offer experimental learning and allow for development in confidence, non verbal communication, self-awareness and overall wellbeing.”

Many of the visitors to the Centre require assistance going to the toilet, therefore a fund-raising campaign was created in order to afford a Changing Places toilet facility.

Changing Places toilets are larger than conventional wheelchair-accessible toilets, giving space for the user and up to two carers. Changing Places include a hoist and adult-sized height adjustable changing bench as standard, whilst the Riding Centre’s facility also features a Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita wash & dry toilet in place of a traditional WC.

Under current building guidelines and legislation, Changing Places toilets are considered ‘desirable’ in any building which has public access. Over 800 Changing Places toilets have been opened in venues across the UK since their conception.
