After a £35million revamp, Kelvin Hall in Glasgow has re-opened, bringing tougher civic, higher education and national organisations under one roof.
1.5million pieces from Glasgow’s civic collection, Glasgow University’s Hunterian Museum and the National Library of Scotland’s Moving Image Archive are now housed, and have a new role as a cultural, research and training centre.
In addition, a state-of-the-art wheelchair-accessible, assisted toilet facility, supplied and installed by Clos-o-Mat are in included.
Therefore, anyone who cannot use a conventional wheelchair-accessible toilet can now enjoy the benefits of Kelvin Hall, knowing there are suitable toilet facilities to hand.
The room has additional space for those who need the help of at least on carer, plus an adult-sized height adjustable changing bench, privacy screen and ceiling track hoist that are all required fixtures in a Changing Places. Furthermore, it has a Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita wash and dry toilet, rather than a traditional WC, and a height adjustable washbasin.
Special projects team leader, Robert Gartshore explains that the assisted accessible toilet delivers all the extra care equipment that helps people who need assistance with their intimate hygiene, and the Clos-o-Mat that washes and dries the user, further extending the usability and raising the level of hygiene available.
Clos-o-Mat’s away from home washroom project manager, Kelvin Grimes adds that the suitability of a Changing Places toilet with a wash & dry toilet is extended to millions of other people.
A Changing Places toilet is ‘desirable’ in buildings to which members of the public have access, under latest Building Regulations and good practice guidelines.
12m2 are provided, with additional equipment including an adult-sized height adjustable changing bench and ceiling track hoist, in a Changing Places, in addition to conventional wheelchair accessible toilets.
As Britain’s biggest provider of fully accessible toilets, in domestic environments and ‘away from home’, Clos-o-Mat includes a substantial number of Changing Places facilities and their smaller, counterpart Space to Change toilets.
