Charcon helps create hub for community activity in the heart of Bethnal Green

  • 6 Mar 2018

Charcon, the commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries, has recently aided the transformation of a disused area into an attractive and accessible public space.

The Oval is situated in the heart of Bethnal Green, East London, and had previously been a hotspot for illegal car parking. With help from London Borough Tower Hamlets, the place has now been successfully transformed into a safe seating area for members of the public.

The newly transformed Oval now features attractive lighting and a versatile stage area, housing performances and markets.

Charcon played a key part in the project, recommending the best hard landscaping products that would be most suited for the multi-use venue.

In total, 300m2 of Charcon’s Andover Textured Block Paving was supplied in White, Silver Fleck and Light Grey, in addition to a further 300m2 of Andover Textured Paving in White Grey and White.

Gavin Fancote, specification manager for Aggregate Industries, comments: “This was a fantastic project to get involved in and we’ve enjoyed seeing the area transform into a striking community space for residents and visitors to enjoy. The project demonstrated how, when specified correctly, creative hard landscaping can really transform an area that not only offers minimum maintenance, but will stand the test of time.”
