Cladding panels specified to protect seafront development

The contract, worth £48.5m, comprises three towers. The landmark residential tower stands at 26 storeys high and is supported by two residential buildings at 50m and 30m high respectively.

The development offers 299 private apartments and 2,800 metres squared of retail and leisure space overlooking the marina.

Trespa Meteon cladding panels have been specified to protect the Admirals Quay

Weatherproof façade

Due to the coastal location of the development, the external façade required a material that could withstand the elements of sea, salt and wind.

HGP Architects also wanted the orientation of the panels to give the appearance of a different shade on the development to show the versatility of a single coloured panel when installed at 180 degrees.

This would ensure that the light catches the material and provides a variation of the colour.

Available in a wide choice of colours and effects and tested extensively for weather and UV-resistance, this was achieved using Trespa Meteon cladding panels.

The cladding panels are a high-pressure compact laminate (HPL) with an integral surface manufactured using Trespa’s in-house technologies, Electron Beam Curing (EBC) and Dry Forming (DF).

Manufactured under high pressures and temperatures, the blend of up to 70% wood-based fibres and thermosetting resins produces a stable, dense panel with good compressive and tensile strength.

2,000 square metres of the material was specified for the main tower in metallic aluminium grey.

Award-winning development

Trespa Meteon fulfilled the requirements for the design of Admirals Quay, performing as required against the developments seafront conditions.

As a result, Admirals Quay was named the Best High Volume New Housing Development at the LABC South East Awards this year.
