Clos-o-Mat is advising schools to address inadequate toileting issues over the summer, in preparation for the new intake in September.
Bladder and bowel conditions can have an immense impact on the physical, emotional and psychological health and wellbeing of young children. With over 10% of Britain’s schoolchildren suffering from continence problems, schools and teachers must ensure that access to a private, user-friendly toilet is provided.
According to Clos-o-Mat, one in 10 senior primary teachers have reported that at least one pupil in a class is still not toilet trained at school age: many children miss a significant proportion of their reception education because they are being taken out of class to be changed.
Hygiene, privacy and independence are key issues for consideration. Clos-o-Mat fears that inadequate toileting facilities can prevent children from learning essential personal care skills.
The company advises switching a conventional WC for a wash and dry toilet, such as its Palma Vita and Lima Lift. Built-in douching and drying ensures the user is cleaned to a consistent standard, eliminating the need for a member of staff to wipe them with toilet tissue.
Tor Bank School, for example, has had three Clos-o-Mat toilets installed to safeguard its pupils, whilst giving them the opportunity to experience greater privacy and independence. The solution also allows teaching staff to spend more time on classroom education.
Clos-o-Mat’s Palma Vita can be fitted with a number of accessories, including paediatric support systems, to help children. Whilst the Lima Lift offers similar benefits, it is also fully height-adjustable: it can be lowered for small children and infants, and raised for adolescent and adult users.
