CMS director shortlisted for prestigious IoD Scotland award

  • 28 Apr 2020

The achievements of CMS Window Systems’ sustainability strategy over the past 14 years have been formally recognised by the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland.

This is courtesy of an award shortlisting the man who has been behind the strategy since day one, CMS’ Support Services Director Martin McCrimmon.

Martin is a finalist for the first ever ‘Social Value & Sustainability Impact’ award in the IoD Scotland 2020 Director of the Year Awards.

This new award recognises the most ethical, socially responsible or green business leaders in Scotland and the UK, with judges looking for directors who demonstrate good awareness of the impact of their business on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental.

In his role at CMS, Martin is directly responsible for devising and delivering the organisation’s sustainability strategy. Supported by a knowledgeable team, which includes a full time in-house environmental advisor – Amy Ledger – this strategy has pioneered new approaches to how a window, door and curtain walling manufacturing and installation business can operate.

The result has been to minimise its carbon footprint and protect and enhance its local community, whilst providing customers with dependable solutions that allow them to reach their own sustainability targets.

Some of the most significant successes of CMS’ sustainability strategy relate to the reduction of waste. For the past two years, the company has diverted 100% of waste away from landfill, thanks to its highly efficient in-house recycling processes and facilities – with 97% going to specialist recyclers and 3% to waste-to-energy companies.

The company has also implemented a biodiversity programme to enhance the wildlife around its sites, and it continues to support local communities and staff through charitable donations and pioneering initiatives, like its ‘Be Well’ mental health awareness and training programme.

David Ritchie, CEO of CMS Window Systems, commented: “We’d like to congratulate Martin on being shortlisted for this new IoD award, and thank him for all the hard work he and his team have put in to the sustainability strategy since the inception of CMS in 2006.

“Martin’s dedication is outstanding, continuously pushing the boundaries and demonstrating that a well-conceived sustainability strategy can be key to a successful and growing company.”

Winners of the IoD Scotland 2020 Director of the Year Awards are set to be announced on 8 September at a prestigious presentation ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow, pending social distancing guidelines.
