  • installed by Hastings Glass

Jonathan Horner and his company Paternoster Properties were initially refused permission to replace the original single glazed timber box sash windows in the four storey Victorian building with PVC-U alternatives but, with support from REHAU, Jonathan used an appeals surveyor to convince the conservation officer that the REHAU Heritage windows were an appropriate alternative.

The REHAU Heritage vertical slider is already extensively approved for use in conservation areas around the UK and REHAU’s commercial sales manager, Kevin O’Neill, was able to support the appeal to the local conservation officer in Eastbourne with examples of similar installations elsewhere.

He was also able to provide technical data and scaled drawings to show how well the Roseview manufactured windows could replicate the originals with slim arched head profiles and run through sash horns which would mimic the shapes, proportions and detailing.

Jonathan Horner from Paternoster Properties:  “Our priority was to restore the façade of Beverly Court so that the building would once again be an elegant part of Eastbourne’s historic seafront.  We deliberately chose the custom made REHAU Heritage windows because they are almost identical to the original Victorian windows and, used across the whole of the front elevation, we felt they would give the building a feeling of integrity for decades to come.

“Just as importantly though, we felt that, by choosing windows in PVC-U we would be improving the energy efficiency of the building, cutting fuel costs for our tenants and eliminating the requirement for costly ongoing maintenance and the attendant scaffolding associated with painting and repairing timber box sashes.

While the conservation officer refused our original application in 2013, the material we provided during the appeal helped to convince him that the REHAU Heritage vertical sliders were a suitable choice and, now that they are installed, the windows look truly stunning.”

Willie Kerr, Managing Director of Roseview Windows: “Our REHAU Heritage sash window, which we call the Ultimate Rose, incorporates an exclusive stylish run-through sash horn designed to replicate the fine details you would find on a timber sash window. The run-through sash horn was developed by the R&D team here at Roseview and was a key factor in helping us win this contract.”

Hastings Glass are also installing casement windows fabricated by 1st Class Windows in the REHAU TOTAL70 PVC-U system to the side and rear elevations of the block.

‘Knowhau’ service

The project was a good example of the ‘Knowhau’ service which REHAU’s commercial team provides to clients, developers and contractors and which encompasses advice on window styles, performance and security, CPD seminars, training, and CAD drawings as well as this type of extensive planning support.
