Cliff and his team worked closely with the client to develop a bespoke solution to help create a striking 13.7 metre curved span panoramic window, providing the client with amazing coastal views on a private residence in Borth.

What challenges did this project present?

The curved opening was very complex, the opening spanned well over 13 meters in total, so designing a solution that could be easily transported to site and achieving the varying curves throughout was the biggest challenge we faced on this project.

What solutions were developed to overcome these challenges?

As this was a complex project, we decided the best way forward was to organise a site visit, this allowed us to take accurate measurements and gain a better perspective of the scale of the property and the requirements for this project.

I visited the site and took all measurements, assuring the radius of the opening was calculated accurately throughout the curve. Upon returning to the office, I started working on the solution.

Confident in the dimensions, I designed a four piece lintel which bolted together on site overcoming the logistical challenged presented by this project.

What was your favourite architectural feature on this project?

The curve of the windows around the entire front elevation of the property creates an eye-catching feature. The design we developed used support posts hidden within the window frames to achieve the architect’s vision of creating one continuous curved opening providing panoramic views of the beautiful coastal surroundings.

Why did you enjoy working on this project?

This property was one of the most challenging projects I had been involved in, so when we finally supplied the lintels and it all fitted together perfectly, there was a real sense of achievement. I enjoyed working with the client to find a solution to make this exciting design become a reality.
