Crown paints a brighter future for housing charity

  • 18 Mar 2020

Crown Paints has supported its supply chain partner and property services company, Ian Williams, in transforming the lives of vulnerable young people in South Gloucestershire, by supplying paint products for the full refurbishment of a local hostel.

Managed by homelessness charity 1625 Independent People, Southwold House, based in Yate, provides supported accommodation for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are either currently homeless or at risk of becoming so.

The hostel has been fully redecorated and modernised, with Ian Williams providing its services and expertise free of charge and enlisting the help of its supply chain to donate products.

The residents of Southwold House can now enjoy a warm and welcoming home, which has been decorated to the highest standards and designed to provide a mix of facilities, from areas for quiet reflection or study to communal spaces such as a bright and modern kitchen and dining room.

Crown Paints has provided a range of products to help enhance the appearance of the interior rooms, while contributing to reducing the cost of future maintenance requirements.

Crown Trade’s high performance Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt emulsion was the perfect choice for creating colourful and easy to clean walls, and was used in a variety of colours, in a number of different rooms.

The ceilings within the house also benefited from Crown Trade’s Matt Vinyl paint, which offers a flat non-reflective finish that helps to hide any surface imperfections. All Crown Trade products were supplied by the local Crown Decorating Centre in Bristol.

Mike Turner, Ian Williams’ executive director, said: “Supporting 1625 Independent People with the refurbishment of Southwold House was an easy decision for Ian Williams and our Foundation.

“We work in thousands of homes and communities across the UK every year, so knew we could offer expertise, a highly skilled delivery team, project management and the support of a large supplier network, including Crown.

“The end result is something really brilliant that will have a long-lasting and positive impact on people’s lives.

“It has been a privilege to work with the charity and we’re so proud to have created an attractive environment for living, learning and relaxing.”

Ian Lealand, Crown’s business development manager, added: “Having worked with Ian Williams on a number of different contracts over the years, it was a real privilege to be invited to be involved in the refurbishment of Southwold House and to support the valuable charitable work of 1625 Independent People.

“This is an important facility for many vulnerable young people in the area and we are pleased to have been involved in its refurbishment and to help ensure that it remains a homely and comfortable haven for many more years to come.”
