Residents of Hull’s Spring Bank may have noticed its new brighter look, courtesy of the donation of 200 litres of paint, by Crown Paints, to the Colours of Spring Bank art project.
Crown Paints, which manufactures some of its popular products in Hull, donated Sandtex 365 All Weather Masonry paint to the ongoing project, which will see artists painting murals and block colours on a number of houses and properties that are home to small businesses in the area.
Artlink Hull, which is overseeing the Colours of Spring Bank, has commissioned artists Shaz Darley and Skeg to create a project that promotes the unity, diversity and community spirit of the area, with colourful additions to the exterior of three local properties already having been completed.
Colours of Spring Bank gave residents the chance to have their say on the colours and type of art they wanted to see on their street.
To make the decision, Shaz Darley was provided with a palette of over 150 colours available with Sandtex 365 All Weather Masonry paint, which she narrowed to 24 colours to be chosen by the community in a public vote.
As a result of the vote, which received approximately 700 responses, a palette of 17 colours was created to be used across the project.
These bright shades will add colour to the buildings, which will be further enhanced in the coming months through other interventions such as light installations.
The project aims to attract more visitors to the area and generate future investments.
Artist Shaz Darley commented: “Artists including myself welcome contributions like this from Crown Paints, as it means we can deliver on what communities are asking for with confidence in the product we’re using.
“I can’t overstate what a difference this sort of generosity makes when working within tight budgets on community based projects.
“The completed murals so far look great and we’re excited to be able to make a substantial difference to the area with the help of Crown Paints.”
Josie Cawdry, corporate communications executive at Crown Paints, added: “At Crown, we take pride in making regular contributions to community causes such as the Colours of Spring Bank project with the products best suited to the job.
“We’re delighted to see how Sandtex 365 All Weather Masonry paint has already made a difference to Spring Bank, and we look forward to seeing the progress as the project continues.”
