Crown Paints celebrates the history of Hull in culture project

Crown Paints is supporting Hull UK City of Culture 2017 with a large scale outdoor art project, which puts colour, history and a passion for the city firmly on the map.

Crown Paints has signed up as a Hull 2017 Business Club partner and has donated paint to numerous projects so far and the first to come to fruition has put Crown Paints’ products to best effect, with Sandtex Trade masonry paint used to create two end of terrace house murals in the Hessle Road area.

Installed as part of the Hull 2017 ‘Roots & Routes’ season, the Terrace Enders project involves a team of professional artists creating meaningful images of Hull’s fishing industry, its alIied industries and the communities they sustained.

Terrace Enders lead artist, Andy Pea, has a personal investment in the project as his father spent most of his life working in the city’s fishing industry.

Martin Green, Director of Hull 2017, added: “Hessle Road is a pivotal part of Hull life and its heritage, and we are placed to be able to offer support for these new murals through our Creative Communities Programme.”

Crown Paints has been manufacturing paints in the city for over 200 years and has a long history of employment in the region, with almost 200 people working at its Sculcoates Lane manufacturing site and at Crown Decorating Centres located in and around the city.
