Crown Paints is celebrating after being awarded the Coating Care Overall Best Performer Award by the British Coatings Federation.

The award comes following the company’s work of its Hull plant, with outstanding improvements in energy use and waste management, with waste to landfill recorded as zero.

Crown Paints has introduced Nimtech, a social enterprise providing employment opportunities for the hard to reach and long-term unemployed, to ensure the maximum amount of waste can be re-used and recycled.

This new partnership comes as part of Crown’s Earthbalance sustainability programme, which aims to emphasise social responsibility, the environment and the economy when doing business.

Circular economy and community are both key elements of the Earthbalance programme, reflected in Crown’s support for Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

Ellis Mudd, site manager at Crown Paints in Hull, said: “Crown Paints is owned by Hempel and we are actively encouraged to take an active role in corporate responsibility. That includes supporting causes or events which impact on local communities or the wider world and our work with Hull UK City of Culture has been a great example of that policy in action.”
