Crown Paints has opened a new state-of-the-art raw material and packaging warehouse facility at its Hull manufacturing base.
The warehouse, located at Crown Paints’ Sculcoates Lane site, is the result of a £4.4 million investment by Crown Paints and creates an additional 4,265 square metres of storage space for raw materials and packaging.
Members of Hull City Council, including council leader Councillor Daren Hale, joined Crown Paints’ manufacturing director Ellis Mudd at the official opening of the warehouse earlier this month.
The new facility enables the paint manufacturer to consolidate its operations from several older buildings into one modern facility – and in doing so allows Crown to repurpose the existing buildings to accommodate future growth.
The building of the new warehouse underlines Crown’s commitment to its UK production operations, both at this site in Hull and its headquarters in Darwen, Lancashire.
Councillor Daren Hale says: “Crown Paints can trace its origins in the city to the early 19th century, it is therefore gratifying to see the continued investment in the site and in a business that continues to be a major employer in the city.”
Ellis Mudd, Manufacturing Director at Crown Paints, adds: “The new multi-million-pound Hull warehouse creates much-needed additional storage space for raw materials and packaging, allowing us to increase our manufacturing output and improve efficiencies.
“Not only that, but the new modern infrastructure which includes over 500 solar panels contributes significantly to our sustainability strategy.
“We will continue to make significant investments in our manufacturing capability as part of a commitment to the long-term future of our facilities.”
Hull-based construction company Hobson & Porter was the main contractor on the building and oversaw the construction project throughout.
