Dulux Academy offers classes for local apprentices ahead of National Apprenticeship Week

  • 23 Mar 2018

The Dulux Academy has invited local painting and decorating apprentices to visit its Dulux Academy facilities for a series of training events, in support of the 11th National Apprenticeship Week.

The classes were held at the Slough and Ashington sites, led by expert Dulux Academy trainers, providing hands-on, engaging learning experiences.

During the two-day event held in Ashington Northumberland, the Dulux Academy hosted 1st year apprentices from South Lanarkshire College who took part in an Apprenticeship Master Class. The master class involved lead Dulux Academy Trainer, Mark Rigby, sharing general tips and application techniques. The Dulux academy in Slough also offered a two-day event, led by expert trainer Matt Gray.

Mark Rigby comments: “National Apprenticeship Week, co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, is an ideal platform to celebrate the success of apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the economy.”

The main practical task of the day enabled each apprentice to take ownership of a Paw Print painting. Transferring the image from an A4 sheet of paper to a blank wall, apprentices were able to measure and set out vertical lines to then hand paint the paw print onto the wall – ensuring it was to scale. Using Dulux Trade Vinyl Silk and Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt emulsions, in Dulux 2018’s Colour of the Year ‘Heart Wood’, on alternate lines, the final image highlighted the difference sheen level can make to a colour.
