DuPont Plantex root protector offers water-permeable root barrier

  • 10 Sep 2015

Designed for horizontal applications on outdoor landscaping developments, DuPont Plantex root protector provides a water-permeable barrier with root resistance.

The root protector comprises thermally-bonded polypropylene filaments, which work to protect against roots whilst remaining water permeable.

Greenhouse tests have shown that the material is able to resist root perforations for over a year; it is able to protect against plants with fast root development, differentiating it from other permeable root barriers, which often show perforations after 8 weeks.

Varied applications

DuPont Plantex root protector has been made available in an assortment of roll dimesnsions, offering widths from 1m to 5.2m and 100m long.

The sizes of the material make it suitable to cover large areas, such as cycle tracks, green roofs and forest trails, whilst requiring fewer joints. This allows for a quicker installation and a reduced risk of root perforation due to any weak joints.

The flexible product can be formed on site, following the shape of the land. This makes it ideal for installation on urban plantation ditches and pedestrian pathways.

Permeability offers structural stability

As DuPont Plantex root protector is permeable, water is able to circulate freely in the soil beneath it. This ensures that the development of underground water pockets is prevented, avoiding hydrostatic problems.

Because of this, the load-bearing capacity of paths and roads can be maintained, increasing the overall lifespan of the structures.

The plantations are also able to keep their roots well irrigated, allowing them to grow uniformly without posing a threat to nearby constructions.
