Encasement Verta column casings still going strong after 10 years at Gatwick

  • 20 Apr 2024

Encasement’s Verta column casings are still demonstrating their durability after 10 years at London Gatwick’s South Terminal.

Gatwick in one of the world’s busiest international airports, which served around 35 million passengers in 2023.

Originally installed in 2014 as part of the £40 million refurbishments and upgrading of the airport’s departure lounge and retail area, 27 pre-formed Circa column casings from the Verta range are concealing structural steelwork while adding an extra touch of style to the remodelled interior.

Gatwick’s transformed retail area has a range of stores, both landside and airside, including Harrods, Boots, Superdry and Ted Baker, as well as a range of other outlets representing some of the world’s largest and best known international brands.

Encasement

Ranging in height from 3.3 metres to 7.5 metres, Encasement manufactured, supplied and installed the column casings to precise specifications to ensure that the high standard of interior design and finish was maintained.

The upper section of each casing is finished in Formica® FR grade real wood laminate, while the lower 1.2 metres uses brushed stainless steel, which also incorporates flush-fitting aluminium feature joints.

Constructed from durable and tough 12 mm thick pre-formed plywood, the 800mm diameter casings are situated throughout the departure lounge area and were installed overnight to ensure that any possible disruption to passengers and the terminal’s normal daily flight operations was minimal.
