The Encon Group, the UK’s leading independent distributor of building materials, achieves the highly regarded ISO 19443 certification – a quality management system standard for organisations operating in the nuclear industry supply chain. The achievement reaffirms Encon’s position as a valuable supply chain partner for nuclear sector projects across the country.
Encon’s success reflects a highly detailed, multi-day audit that ensures products earmarked for the nuclear industry follow a defined and traceable route from the manufacturer through to delivery. This includes maintaining suitable storage environments and checking employee competence. The accreditation covers the breadth of Encon’s specialist range, from construction products, roofing and external façade materials, through to thermal and technical insulation, passive fire protection and interior systems.
Building on the ISO 9001 standard, ISO 19443 is the first internationally approved standard created by the industry to ensure quality control throughout its supply chain. It combines the best quality practices with the specific requirements of the nuclear industry, encompassing aspects such as risk management, traceability, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
The Standard was awarded by LRQA, authorised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to provide an independent assessment of organisations working towards this certification. UKAS is the sole national accreditation body for the United Kingdom and its approval of LRQA as an assessor confirms LRQA’s competence, impartiality and performance capability to evaluate organisations and award the standard.
Will Barker, The Encon Group Head of HSEQ Compliance, comments: “The safety of our customers, employees and suppliers is always a top priority for our business, and the successful ISO 19443 audit demonstrates our commitment to applying and continuously improving best practices and maintain the highest safety standards.
“We are proud of the hard work of our HSEQ and business teams, which led to the achievement of this coveted standard. It represents a significant milestone for our business and underpins our commitment to excellence in the nuclear industry supply chain, ensuring we continue with our high levels of safety, reliability and quality in the delivery of products and in providing exceptional value to our customers.”
Mark Nicholls, Head of Infrastructure, adds: “Our successful audit demonstrates Encon’s commitment to safety, compliance, risk management and endorsing continuous improvement. It also reinforces our position as ‘The Distributor of Choice’ for specifiers and contractors across the construction landscape to deliver on specialist nuclear projects.
“Our knowledgeable teams, reliable service and strong partnerships with leading brands ensure customers benefit from a high standard of project support at every stage.”
