Doorset specification for Flitwick leisure centre

Extensive doorset specification carried out for leisure centre development

  • 8 Apr 2016

ASSA ABLOY UK Specification has worked in conjunction with B3 Architects and Central Bedfordshire Council to deliver a bespoke solution for a new Flitwick-based leisure centre.

Comprising a four-court sports hall, a swimming pool, an indoor climbing wall and a health and fitness suite, the new building has been designed to service the needs of Flitwick’s growing community.

As the building has been erected next to the existing leisure centre, aesthetics had to be considered throughout the planning process, in order to blend the contemporary facility with its historic setting.

Doorset specification

ASSA ABLOY UK Specification – a British department of ASSA ABLOY – was contracted by B3 Architects to develop a comprehensive solution for internal and external doorsets.

The team adopted a holistic approach to specification, working with the architects and divisions of the supply chain to devise a suitable solution for the build’s original design intent.

By establishing a close working relationship with B3 Architects, the team developed a sound understanding of the architects’ vision. Through this design-led approach, they were able to conceive a specification that suited the access and flow requirements of the public building.

ASSA ABLOY UK Specification also offered its assistance to the architects and contractors throughout the development: it dealt with scheduling and provided sufficient data to support whole life costing and the certification of a building’s sustainability credentials.
