Cembrit fibre cement slates at Weymouth housing development

Fibre cement slates provide natural finish to seaside housing development

  • 25 Apr 2016

A range of Cembrit’s BBA-certified fibre cement slates have been specified for a nature-inspired housing development in Weymouth.

Jutland and Zeeland slates were specified for Pemberly, a seaside development comprising 176 houses, townhouses, apartments and bungalows. The development offers a tranquil living space, located within walking distance of shops, schools and local amenities.

The project was undertaken by Poole-based building contractor F.H. Cummings and roofing specialist Weatherbury Roofing.

The slates were chosen to blend in with the natural surroundings, accommodate the varying roof pitches and meet the high specification requirements.

Fibre cement slates

Cembret’s fibre cement slates are lightweight and pre-holed which, combined with the fact that the slates do not need any grading or sorting, meant that they could be installed much quicker.

The range holds five BBA certificates and have completed a comprehensive testing process, successfully meeting all the requirements set out by the BBA.

The Jutland and Zeeland slates are manufactured using Portland cement combined with a formulation of superior blended synthetic and cellulose fibres. The slates are finished with a semi-matt acrylic coloured coating to the face and edges and a tinted binder to the back face.

The slates are manufactured in accordance to ISO 9001 and meet the requirements of BS EN 492:2004 product specification for fibre cement slates and their fittings.

The slates are rated A/A+, meaning they can contribute to achieving an environmentally outstanding building.
