Encasement has supplied and installed four bespoke aluminium Forma column casings to create a new entrance for Winchester College’s recently refurbished New Hall.
Initially built in the 1960s, the college’s New Hall was designed to host lectures, examinations and concerts for the school, which was founded by the Bishop of Winchester in 1382.
A recent multi-million pound project has seen the expansion and refurbishment of the building, which has been modified to include a new feature entrance and foyer. The main performance space has also been upgraded to incorporate mechanical ventilation and operable bleacher seats.
Forma column casings
Encasement was contracted to supply and install several 450mm diameter Forma column casings for the new entrance design. At 5,800mm tall, the casings were specified to conceal the structural steelwork that supports the pitched canopy’s front edge.
They were manufactured to include header and skirting collars to suit the architect’s specifications; these collars were cut on site for the sloping canopy by Encasement.
Encasement, which works to provide casing solutions for both private and state education sectors, supplied a further 16 column casings for installation within other parts of the project, including the new glazed foyer area.
All of the casings have been coated in a RAL 7015 grey PPC finish, which complements New Hall’s contemporary interior.
