Garador has played a major role in the West Country’s first ever Race from the Base charity event.
This brand new event was organised to raise funds for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Garador was a key sponsor, providing funding for the charity and also organising a six-man team to take part in the race.
The event started and finished at Henstridge Airfield in Somerset, with three difference length routes available. These included a shorter circuit of just 30kms and the most demanding, a 60km cruise race and 100km climb race, which followed a challenging course around the local countryside.
The Garador team included staff members Dean Curwen, Philip Wareham, Neil Bond, Steve Cottell, Geoff Babiy and Robert Green. They all work in Garador’s manufacturing department. The race day was particularly hot and challenging, but Garador’s avid cycling team members completed the challenge in excellent time, opting for the 60km course.
Alana Hardy, Fundraising Events Officer at Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, says the hot weather made the race really hard work, but nevertheless it was a big success.
“Money is still coming in, so we don’t have a total yet, but without doubt this new Race from the Base went very well indeed. It was a fantastic event and the riders had a great time,” she comments.
“I would like to say a special huge thank you to Garador; we couldn’t run these events without their support. We will now definitely be running another event next year.”
