Power usage analysis is vital for organisations to carry out energy audits, before-and-after energy assessments, identify high energy consumption, and validate sustainable energy-saving plans. Energy data loggers, such as the Tinytag Energy Logger, provide businesses with information about significant areas of energy usage.
Recording data before implementing energy-saving measures can inform your strategy by revealing areas of high power consumption that could feasibly be reduced, and the peak times for energy usage in your facility. Data recorded after executing energy-saving plans helps to verify the intended energy savings and provides useful historical data to refer back to and report on.
This energy usage data is especially integral to energy audits as part of ISO 50001 compliance or an ESOS assessment.
The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is an energy assessment scheme for large UK undertakings and their corporate groups. If an organisation fully complies with ISO 50001 (Energy Management), a complete ESOS assessment is not required. Eligible, non-ISO 50001 compliant organisations must carry out an ESOS assessment consisting of:
1) Calculating your total energy consumption.
2) Identifying your areas of significant energy consumption.
3) Appointing a lead assessor.
4) Notifying the Environment Agency.
5) And keeping records.
An ESOS-compliant energy audit must: be based on 12 months’ verifiable data; analyse the organisation’s energy consumption and efficiency; identify energy-saving opportunities; use energy consumption profiles; and be reviewed by an ESOS Lead Assessor.
The Environment Agency announced in September 2024 that it will be testing the Action Plan submission part of the ESOS portal during the first two weeks of October 2024. The Phase 4 Action Plan submission date remains as 5th December 2024.
The Tinytag Energy Logger measures voltage (V) and current (AC), using this data to calculate an overall power figure (kW) and power factor. Used for spot checks and long-term recording, the Energy Logger monitors single and three-phase power supplies from the standard mains lead (to monitor voltage) and non-invasive flexible Rogowski coils (available in three sizes, to monitor current).
Environmental specialists Green Bridge chose the Tinytag Energy Logger to help increase energy savings in commercial buildings because of Tinytag’s reputation in measurement instrumentation: many energy professionals – colleagues and associates – had successfully used Tinytags in the past.
Phil Evans, Managing Director of Green Bridge, comments: “The logger was a good price, simple to use, quick to install and gives us the data we need in a standard format.”
Simple and reliable, the Tinytag Energy Logger is ideal for various power monitoring applications.
Gemini Data Loggers designs and manufactures various building monitoring equipment, including temperature and relative humidity data loggers for assessing occupant comfort, carbon dioxide data loggers for monitoring indoor air quality, and data loggers for monitoring energy usage and efficiency.
