Glassolutions deliver thermally-efficient building envelope using Metal Technology

  • 12 Apr 2016

Glassolutions has fabricated and installed a curtain walling system for Alford Academy’s new Community Campus in Aberdeenshire, creating a space with excellent temperature control, effective ventilation and lots of natural sunlight.

The curtain walling system was installed as part of a £37 million contract devised by Aberdeeshire Country Council, in partnership with Hub North and the Scottish Futures Trust, to create Alford Academy’s new Community Campus.

The campus has been built to accommodate up to 960 pupils and to provide sport and leisure facilities for the wider community.

Metal Technology systems

Glassolutions selected Metal Technology’s System 17 High Rise curtain walling system to form the two-storey building envelope.

The system provides excellent thermal efficiency throughout the building due to its continuous thermal isolator, paired with thermally broken casement windows from Metal Technology’s System 4-20 range.

Large glass units were specified for the project to maximise light transmittance.

Community Development Project of the Year nominee

The Alford Community Campus was completed in just over 2 years, with construction finishing after the 2015 October half term.

The development has been praised for its light, airy interior and well it has accommodated both the needs of the students and the wider community. The project was named as a finalist for the Community Development Project of the Year award at the Scottish Property Awards 2016.
