Leading building products manufacturer Glidevale Protect has joined forces with recycling partner Go Green to make further improvements to its waste management process and further minimise its impact on the environment.
Go Green, a leader in outsourced waste management and recycling solutions, recently conducted an audit of Glidevale Protect’s waste management systems in place at its Pinxton manufacturing site. The audit looked at all areas including the disposal of packaging and hazardous waste, the segregation and baling of cardboard, plastics and membrane, right down to the way food waste from its employee canteen is collected and processed.
Luke Johnson, Contract Development Manager at Go Green, says: “It is evident Glidevale Protect places a strong emphasis on efficient waste segregation and optimising waste management processes. The company maximises the utility of general waste by using a compactor, which minimises transport costs and reduces waste volume.
“By compacting general waste, it not only reduces the frequency of waste collections but also lowers the carbon footprint associated with transportation, demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability. For example, the company effectively segregates cardboard and plastics to maximise their value and increase recycling across the business.”
John Mellor, Head of Marketing and Sustainability Lead at Glidevale Protect, adds: “It’s always great to hear feedback like this and know that our efforts in this area are hitting the mark. Our focus on increasing our recycling activity follows hot on the heels of several other initiatives we’ve worked on in the last year including growth of our closed loop recycling which involves granulating waste ABS offcuts from our tile ventilation production line which are compounded, moulded, and recycled back into products by our local supply chain.
“Sustainability is at the heart of our business and we’re continually looking at new ways we can improve our operations to minimise our carbon footprint, either within products or operationally.”
Glidevale Protect operates from two manufacturing facilities in the UK, Pinxton in Nottinghamshire and Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, both of which achieved accreditation to the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard earlier this year as well as both factories already holding ISO 14001 certification, demonstrating effective environmental management systems are being implemented.
In the last few months, the company has also been awarded gold accreditation by the Supply Chain Sustainability School which recognises the commitment to sustainability and demonstrates continuous engagement and learning by Glidevale Protect employees with regards to the different strategic areas of importance within the area of sustainability.
