Grade II art deco building specifies PURe insulating windows

  • 16 Nov 2016

Senior Architectural Systems’ PURe aluminium windows have been specified for the sympathetic refurbishment of a Grade II listed art deco building in Newcastle.

The five-storey former department store building dates back to the 1890s and will house a new Premier Inn hotel, redeveloped by main contractor Interserve and architects Archial NORR.

Essential Aluminium delivered the building’s glazing package, comprising Senior’s patented PURe aluminium casement windows, specified for their enhanced thermal performance which has the potential to achieve u-values as low as 0.71 W/m2K when calculated as a commercial CEN standard window.

PURe windows feature a thermal barrier manufactured from expanded polyurethane foam (PUR) and were used alongside triple glazed glass for additional thermal and sound insulation.

The system features slim sightless to maximise the flow of natural light and compliment the areas where some of the original window frames have been restored.
