House building boom underway plus biggest rise in construction order books since 2005

The big rise in house building is beginning to fuel significant growth right across the construction sector. A jump of 33% in industry new orders during the April-June period was the biggest increase since records began in 2005 and means medium term growth is looking more secure.

Vince Cable announced a new £150m fund to boost low carbon building, whilst current new wind and solar farms construction is already contributing to the improved outlook.

Some economists are flagging up concerns that big house price increases in the short term could get us back into a damaging debt cycle. However, UK house building rate still needs to double to meet demand.

Companies that have invested in new products during the recession are now doing well. One example is Frame Wise who are launching a new timber panel solution at Timber Expo. This has also just won the 2013 TTJ Timber Innovation Award – so well done.

If you want to get inspired by new products and opportunities right across Europe and beyond, why not visit BATIMAT 2013 – the world’s biggest building and architecture exhibition, with 400k visitors expected to visit 3,500 exhibitors, all on one site in Paris in November. Buildingtalk is promoting the show in the UK, so look out for more details out shortly.

And a final reminder to register to visit Timber Expo, at the NEC, Birmingham, 24/25th September – see you there! Check out our Top 10 Stories, Case Studies, Top Tweets. Follow the links for more details and downloads.
