Ideal laboratory environment ensured by Selectaglaze

  • 12 Apr 2018

The thermal insulation and security of UK/US based cancer therapeutics company PsiOxus Therapeutics Ltd. (PsiOxus) has been vastly improved, due to Selectaglaze secondary glazing.

PsiOxus has recently expanded into 21,000 square foot of new facilities, which includes a state of the art research and development laboratory in The Quadrant at the Abingdon Science Park.

The main contractor, Morgan Lovell, specified Selectaglaze, the leading supplier of secondary glazing, to create bespoke resolutions to enhance the building’s thermal insulation and security in certain areas.

The original primary windows were thermally inefficient, draughty and let heat escape; simply not good enough given PsiOxus’ research and development environment requires premium cleanliness.

Therefore, a glazing solution was needed to meet these requirements, which included windows with fire ratings to separate the labs and corridors to meet building regulations.

Selectaglaze installed a total of 15 horizontal slider units, with 6mm toughened low-E glass in the 2 and 3 pane options to all of the external primary windows.

Additionally, 22 Series 40 fixed light units were fitted as viewing panels in the research and development laboratories, featuring a sturdier frame which can house higher weights of glass than required in a standard unit.

U-values have improved dramatically, which now exceed 1.9, with draughts also eliminated.

The flush frames and Satinovo glass guarantee experiments will be contained within the laboratories, therefore promoting an improved cleanable and controlled environment.

An extra benefit is the improvement to acoustic insulation, delivering a substantial noise reduction from the outside environment.

Founded in 1966, Royal Warrant holder Selectaglaze specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of secondary glazing for all manner of building types, from new build hotels, to Listed museums.

The company provides a wide variety of tested products, covering acoustic and thermal performance as well as protection against intruder and blast mitigation.

Free technical advisory service is available, as well as RIBA approved CPDs for architects and designers.
