IKO’s Fix That Hut scheme provides new roof to Toxteth activity centre

  • 19 Apr 2017

IKO has donated roofing materials to the Team Oasis ‘Happy Days’ Activity Centre in Toxteth, Liverpool as part of its Fix That Hut scheme.

Set up in 2006, the Fix That Hut scheme helps repair local buildings at the heart of the community that are in need of rejuvenation through wear and tear.

Most recently, IKO donated primer, underlay, cap sheet and IKOslate, which volunteer roofers used to repair the Team Oasis Activity Centre. The activity centre was established in 2003 as a space for children to escape negative influences and enjoy a variety of activities and projects, including dance, drama, music and sports.

Toxteth, where the activity centre is based, has the highest rate of child poverty in the UK and the worst statistics for crime. The centre aims to provide a lifeline for young people at social and economic disadvantage, promote understanding and remove barrier to children.

The new roof that IKO contributed towards was the latest project in the on-going renovation of what was, when Team Oasis moved in, a very dilapidated building.
