Improving independent living with the Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita

  • 30 Jan 2017

The Treloar Trust has completed Vision Treloar’s £20m project to create one, nationally recognised, educational and residential centre of expertise for young people, on a single campus. The state-of-the-art support comes to provide children with disabilities some independency for life after school.

A purpose-designed communal living environment is being created as part of the redevelopment of Gauvain House, with state-of-the-art facilities – including toilets. The building has had eleven Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita wash & dry toilets in certain en-suites within the building, complimenting eight Palma Vitas already installed in Treloar’s Evans House residential unit.

The Palma Vita has built-in facilities which automatically wash and dry the user after toileting, whilst looking like a conventional WC. Consequently, the user is able to maintain a high level of cleanliness/personal hygiene, without having to manually clean or be cleaned by a carer.

What makes the Clos-o-Mat different to similar toilets, is that it can be personalised- at initial installation and later- to individual needs. There are over 150,000 permutations of operating mechanisms, support systems, seats, douches, height adjustability exist.

Levels of independence have been enhanced for students in Evans House thanks to Treloar. Facilities Manager Chloe Stoneham said that it was logical to offer our students similar opportunities in Gauvain House.

Following the fittings of Palma Vitas at Treloar’s, there are now over 50,000 Clos-o-Mats in place across the UK. Clos-o-Mat has 55 years of experience in delivering personal hygiene solutions and now have Palma Vitas installed in individual homes, specialist and mainstream schools, care establishments and public venues.

The products are backed up by in-house support, from assessment of requirements, design of an accessible bathroom or washroom to legislative and budgetary requirements, installation and commissioning of equipment, and lifetime maintenance. The company has developed a range of equipment and support services that today meets every need, including height adjustable basins, and changing tables.
