Kingspan Insulation

Insulation manufacturer recognised for outstanding operation management

  • 17 Sep 2015

Kingspan Insulation’s Pembridge manufacturing facility, which is located in Herefordshire, has been awarded World Class Operation Management (WCOM) Gold.

WCOM is an integrated system, which has been designed to improve company performance by offering a structural kit of methods, training and advice.

It covers nine different areas, including production, quality, maintenance, and engagement. After these sectors have been assessed, companies are awarded an overall level, which is generated based on the weighted average of each area’s score.

The areas are closely linked, meaning that improvements in one section are likely to have a positive effect on another. Better engagement among staff may lead to a reduction in lost time on the production lines, for example.

Outstanding operation management

Over the years, Kingspan Insulation has focused on improving manufacturing at its Pembridge site. Waste has been successfully cut by 70% on the production line for its Kooltherm insulation range over an 8 year period.

The division’s core facilities are externally audited and scored annually, as part of the WCOM process.

By placing an emphasis on developments in quality, engagement and staff training, the process will encourage Kingspan Insulation’s programme of continuous improvement to grow.

Other sites under the Kingspan umbrella are looking to achieve WCOM Gold by 2018.
