Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board

Kingspan releases detailed guidance for Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board

  • 27 Oct 2016

Kingspan Insulation has released the first document in its new technical guidance series, which has been developed to provide standard details for applications of its Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board.

Offering a low thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m.K, the Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board has been developed to deliver low U-values as part of a standard cavity wall construction.

The board benefits from an impermeable polypropylene fleece outer facing, which ensures its can be installed with an air gap of 10mm. It is available in a variety of thicknesses.

Kingspan Insulation’s new technical guidance series has been developed to provide clear details for installing the Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board in different wall junctions. The first release deals with applications of its 90mm board within a 100mm wall cavity.

The document offers a number of solutions, which have been calculated by BRE IP 1/06 and BR 497 compliant engineers to improve on the approved detail values, within the table K1 of SAP 2012. The solutions are suitable for use within SAP and SBEM calculations for building CO2 emissions.

Psi-values are provided for each detail, along with a U-value range and temperature factors for different internal blockwork thermal conductivities. A process sequence for both thermal performance and airtightness is also incorporated.

Variants are included for junctions around windows and doors, covering a 30mm overlap between the cavity and window frame, and a full overlap between the frame and the cavity.

The details document can be downloaded via the Kingspan Insulation website
