Landfill certification for Visqueen from Valpak

  • 4 May 2018

Visqueen has achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification from Valpak at its Heanor and Rhymney manufacturing sites, underlining the strong environmental credentials of the business.

The leading manufacturer and supplier of structural waterproofing and gas protection systems, as part of the RPC bpi group, is the UK’s largest polythene recycler in Europe.

A company can be granted a Zero Waste to Landfill certification when it sends no waste, including production, hazardous and packaging waste, to landfill, as well as sending limited amounts of waste to energy-from-waste (EfW) and showing a commitment to continued improvement in waste reduction and diversion.

As part of its ISO 14001:2015 accreditation for environmental management, controls have been put in place on site to lower the amount of waste being generated, in line with RPC bpi’s annual waste reduction targets.

Effective staff training, raising the profile of waste management on site, and increasing the segregation of waste all helped to achieve this.

The Valpak certifications were then confirmed following an independent assessment and audit.

Daryl Winder, IMS Compliance Manager, commented: “We have worked hard to get full buy-in from staff and develop the culture within the business that ensures staff members always think about waste on each site.”

“The Zero Waste to Landfill certification from Valpak recognises our ongoing commitment to waste management whilst also demonstrating our environmental credentials to our customers.”

Phil Bull, Visqueen’s General Manager, added: “Sustainability has become increasingly important in the construction industry. With our Valpak certification, we believe that we can now claim to be one of a very small few construction companies in the UK that manufactures with zero waste to landfill from the process.”
