Marley adds new EV Charger to renewable system solutions

  • 6 Jun 2023

With Part S of the Building Regulations outlining all newly constructed homes in England must include electric vehicle (EV) charging points, Marley has enhanced its growing renewable energy portfolio with the introduction of a Marley Electric Vehicle Charger.

Effective from this month, Part S mandates that housebuilders and developers must include electric vehicle charging points when constructing new build homes, comprised of 10 or more dwellings, which include onsite or associated parking spaces.

In addition, Part S also outlines the requirement for existing homes and non-residential buildings undergoing major renovation to also include electric vehicle charging facilities.

And, as the uptake of electric vehicles continues to increase due to their low carbon emissions, along with increasing fuel prices, potential house buyers are looking more eagerly at properties that offer in-built at-home charging facilities.

As a result, the relationship between the power that can be generated through solar panels on the roof, which can then be used to charge an electric car through the Marley EV Charger, becomes an attractive option for the homeowner.

Further enhancing a holistic package of renewable products that already includes SolarTile®, its integrated solar PV solution, Marley has launched an effective EV charger that meets both Part S demands to support housebuilders with the creation of sustainable homes, whilst providing homeowners with a cost-effective way to harness solar generated power from the roof and put miles in their new electric cars.

Design, installation, and performance benefits

Coming complete with a 3-year warranty, the EV charger has attractive slimline aesthetics that can be fitted discreetly on the exterior of the property for kerbside appeal or within interiors, such as garages, if required, avoiding the need to install unsightly earth rods due to its built-in open PEN conductor protection.

The sleek and compact 7kW wall mounted socketed charging unit provides high charging performance, and the ability to connect to solar panels on the roofscape so homeowners can access renewable and cheaper energy in the home.

Marley’s EV charger is further supported with an easy-to-use mobile app which provides users with immediate control and a range of functions, including charge scheduling, usage monitoring and solar power matching.

Stuart Nicholson, Roof Systems Director at Marley, comments: “We are delighted to add a proven EV charging solution to our expanding portfolio of renewable system products. Thanks to the Part L and Part S amendments, housebuilders, and the wider construction community are proactively looking for sustainable solutions to help them deliver the energy efficient and low carbon homes required to meet the UK’s 2050 net zero target.

“Specifying solar PV on the roof is already an effective way to meet the regulatory demands of Part L and the growing popularity of Marley’s SolarTile® is testimony to this. Following the launch of the Marley EV Charger, housebuilders can now source an attractive, high performing EV charging solution from Marley at the same time, which can connect seamlessly with a solar PV system.

“This will enable housebuilders to comply with Part S and Part L changes from a single source. It also provides a strong combination of sustainable technologies in the home that will appeal to potential homeowners keen to use renewable energy and lessen their impact on the planet.”
