MCRMA releases aluminium fabrications and flashings guidance

The Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA) has produced and released a new guidance document, offering best practice advice on the design of aluminium fabrications and flashings.

Entitled GD26 Aluminium Fabrications and Flashings: best practice design and fixing guide, the 22-page document advises on the design and fabrication of aluminium flashings, including fasteners and sealants.

The importance of aluminium fabrications

Mechanical fasteners are used to secure all profiled steel and aluminium roofing and cladding systems to the structure. Thus, it is important that the fasteners and sealants are specified and applied correctly.

MCRMA’s new document offers guidance on an assortment of elements associated with fabrication, such as material thickness, thermal movement, fastener position and fabrication junctions.

The document also outlines all relevant industry guidelines, which have been developed to encourage better and more consistent metal roofing and cladding construction. It can be downloaded in full via MCRMA’s website.
