Natural stone slabs specified for World War I memorial

  • 10 Aug 2015

The sandstone memorial is an important part of the local Sutton-on-Hull community, attracting hundreds of visitors each year.

The structure received a significant amount of renovation to improve its stone plaque and ensure better access for a large proportion of visitors with mobility needs.

The natural stone slabs have been used to restore Sutton War Memorial to its former glory

The memorial has been maintained by Sutton-on-Hull’s community, but it was in need of improvement in a structural capacity.

It was decided that the small gravel surround would be extended, using natural stone slabs to accommodate a greater number of visitors.

The planted area around the memorial would be improved with the addition of appropriate kerbs.

Diamond Sawn finish

NPS worked with Brett to install 140m2 of Brett’s Highcroft Diamond Sawn natural stone, selected for its combination of functionality and aesthetics.

110 L/M Highcroft Diamond Sawn edging was used for the creation of new kerbs to surround the memorial and encase replanted shrubs.

The project was completed in advance of the memorial service on 9th November 2014.

The site will be further enhanced with the integration of an inscription within the paved area, in addition to the introduction of a plaque bearing the names of the region’s war heroes.
