Contractors Miller Construction oversaw the project, which was acquired by Galliford Try in 2014. A spacious roof terrace was incorporated into the building, and 30mm thickness of the Kingspan OPTIM-R Balcony & Terrace System was specified to insulate it whilst also maintaining an even transition front he internal area.

Kingspan OPTIM-R panels are unique in their feature of a microporous core which is evacuated, encased and sealed in a gas-tight envelope.

As a result, the panels achieve outstanding insulation performance with an aged thermal conductivity of 0.007 W/mrK, enabling the target U-value of 0.15 W/m2K to be achieved with the slimmest possible construction.

In addition, a further layer of Kingspan Styrozone was installed above the System, with a waterproof membrane and the final balcony surface.

OPTIM-R flex infill strips are also included in the Kingspan OPTIM-R Balcony & Terrace System, which can be cut to size to ensure that the system can meet all design requirements.

The Kingspan OPTIM-R Balcony & Terrace System can provide outstanding long term thermal performance over the lifetime of a building, when installed to Kingspan Insulation’s guidelines.
