Bringing together the client, the specifier, the supplier, and the contractor, the Waterproofing Design Partnership delivers a ‘golden thread’ of waterproofing expertise, supported by Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Working with the specifier, Newton’s approved contractors can take full liability at any design stage, acting as the designated waterproofing designer in compliance with the British Standard, and delivering the specialist expertise required by the Building Safety Act.

On design completion, an approved contractor takes the liability for the waterproofing under their own PI, securing the quality of the design and providing the client with a guaranteed installation.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

It is becoming increasingly difficult for specifiers and contractors to secure Professional Indemnity cover for waterproofing designs in the current market.

Not only does Newton supply an extensive range of products, but it also has a team of dedicated technical staff that can provide support for your project – from design through to post-installation maintenance via a network of specialist contractors. Newton’s site support team are also available to undertake quality assurance visits and on-site training when required.

The British Standard for Waterproofing

The British Standard for Waterproofing, BS 8102:2022, recommends that a waterproofing specialist should be appointed as part of the design team so that an integrated waterproofing solution is created. The waterproofing specialist should:

 – be suitably qualified and experienced commensurate with the type and size of the proposed project
 – be capable of devising solutions that accommodate the various project constraints and needs with an understanding of construction forms and sequencing
 – provide the design team with information and guidance that assists with and influences the design, installation and future maintenance of the waterproofed structure.

If the RIBA stages are used, a waterproofing specialist should be appointed before the technical design stage at the latest.

The Newton Latent Defects Guarantee

Qualifying projects can also benefit from the Newton Latent Defects Guarantee. The guarantee is the first meaningful, insurance policy from a UK waterproofing supplier that is backed by an A-rated, UK-based insurer, and provides up to 12 years of cover for all structural waterproofing defects arising from workmanship, design, and/or materials. All policies are assessed on a case-by-case basis by Newton’s insurer at the design stage.
