During the Novus Apprentice Week, prospective candidates hoping to land an apprenticeship with the company were assessed against various criteria including working ethic, initiative and communication skills, whilst working on a project that benefits the community and encapsulates the company’s values.
The allotment aims to provide the school with a space for enterprise activities and a centre for skills development and student engagement.
Named Employer of the Year at the 2015 Construction News Awards, Novus will offer final interviews to those who successfully complete the challenge with the company’s managing director, before selecting an appropriate candidate for employment with the company.
Novus Chairman Stuart Seddon nominated Thistley Hough Academy in Penkhull for the project, keen to build on the strong links the company had already forged with the school.
The Academy plans to turn the garden into an enterprise hub, where young people will have the ability to grow and sell food, and get the hands-on experience of managing their own small business.
Stuart Seddon said: As a former apprentice myself, I strongly believe in the value of apprentices to the future of our business, and this project is the perfect way to bring together our talented apprentices and get them doing some great work.
Thistley Hough Academy already gives back a great deal to the local community, and we are delighted to be able to contribute to the work they do, whilst getting the chance to assess our new apprentices at the same time.
