Pilkington energiKare IGUs fitted at energy-efficient Essex new build

  • 10 Oct 2016

Installation specialists Portico has fitted more than 100 of Pilkington’s high-spec insulating glass units (IGUs) at an exclusive, new build apartment development in Essex for Weston Homes.

Pilkington energiKare Advantage units were specified for their energy-efficient properties, which see the units achieve a centre pane U-value of just 0.9 W/m2k, helping Weston Homes exceed its target U-value of 1.2 W/m2k.

Installed into 86 windows and 24 patio doors within the five-story development, the energiKare IGUs minimise heat loss and allow more of the sun’s energy to enter the property.

Pilkington worked in collaboration windows and doors manufacturer Emplas on the project, which is part of the high-end Highbanks scheme by Weston Homes in Southend-on-Sea.

Ryan Johnson, managing director at Emplas, commented: “The new build sector has been focussed on improved energy efficiency for a long time and the doors and windows we’re supplying into it are being specified to increasing levels of performance.

We have a longstanding relationship with Pilkington and through continued collaboration we have been able to supply a highly competitive window and door offer into the new build sector.”
